Into The Wild is based on a true story about a top student and athlete named Christopher McCandless who graduated from Emory University, in Atlanta. It is written by author Jon Krakauer. In the novel, Christopher abandons his family, gives his life savings of $24,000 to charity, and hitchikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. The books starts with the finding of his body in an abandoned bus, and retraces his steps during the two years that he was missing. McCandless survived for about 112 days in the Alaskan wilderness. He ate roots, berries, small game, and he also kept a journal. The novel travels along with McCandless, and his ultimate journey to death.
